Issues & How They Impacted My Life

I continued to slowly gain weight after having my son nearly 10 years ago. Obviously putting him first and everyone and everything else before myself. Once I hit 40 in lockdown I knew I had to change something. I was unhappy with my size and weight. Hated getting dressed in the mornings & going out anywhere got me anxious as I didn’t have anything to wear and didn’t want to buy anything coz I was too big. It was a vicious circle and it just got me down and left me with no confidence. I tried every diet going. Joined gyms and did the run on of the mill classes , legs bums and tums , went on the running machines, went on the bike. Wouldn’t dream of picking up a weight. I didn’t want to make myself bigger. Done that for a few weeks and just ended up paying the membership for a year as never stuck to it. I wanted to be ‘skinny’ and then I would be happy. But I always looked for a quick fix. I wanted to see results quick. I had a bad relationship with food. Diet was very poor. Wouldn’t eat in the mornings until lunch then it was a sandwich. Then a massive carb meal for dinner and then I would snack on crisps , chocolate, biscuits and wine! Then I promised myself I would start again tomorrow.

What I Tried Before Working With Vitality & Mind

I tried weight watchers so many times. Then I thought it would be a good idea to only eat 1200 calories a day . Of course that meant not eating and then using my calories eating crisps and chocolate & convenience foods. Slim fast was another one. Didn’t last long.

Why Did You Decide To Work With Ryan?

I knew Ryan from school but not seen him for 20 odd years. I moved away from the area but moved back a few years ago and started to follow him on Facebook when he got his gym in Horndon. I liked the idea of small groups of people. See a lot of his clients were like me, they were mums & they were getting results. And it wasn’t this massive gym where everyone would be looking at me. So I thought what have I got to lose if they can do it then so can I. I knew that if I didn’t take that step then I would never do it! Last chance! So I contacted Ryan and he invited me to have a chat and assessment. It went better than I thought it would. After the initial consultation I walked away knowing I had made the right choice with Ryan. He was open, honest and enthusiastic about the service and care he provided and I felt this was my chance to change.

What Impact Has Working With Vitality & Mind Had?

I’ve been working with Ryan for about 14 months now. My whole life has changed in that time. I’m the lightest I’ve been in over 20 years , I’ve lost 3 stone . I’m the fittest & strongest I have ever been. Ive learnt how to exercise properly. I’ve learnt how to use my body the right way to build muscle but not bulk up. Strengthen my weaker muscles & improve my fitness. I’ve really improved my eating habits & actually eat more than I have ever eaten. This part was probably the hardest part and I’m still not totally ???? great with it but am a lot better than at the start. I’m slowly changing my attitude towards food and Ryan’s weekly check ins and reassurance definitely helps me. I’m learning my body actually needs food to function and train. Where as before I would associate the food with gaining weight. I eat more food than I have ever eaten in my life and have not gained weight. That’s hard to get your head around. Exercising has given me great mental strength too. As with everyone, I’ve had a lot of stress and craziness going on in my life (marriage breakup) and by having my own time for training and focusing on myself daily it’s really helped me deal with a lot of emotions.
Ryan has supported, motivated and coached me from the start and has given me the tools to make it possible. This is a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. Everyone around me has seen a difference in me, I’m happier and more confident. This is just the start for me & there is no end point. This is how I live now. I owe it to myself and my son to be happy!

I joined Ryans's PT sessions in December 2023. It's been a great journey so far and am thoroughly enjoying the sessions. I have joined many gyms in the past and I really struggled to remain consistent and motivated. Since joining Ryan’s PT sessions I feel more motivated and confident in achieving my heath and fitness goals. I can’t recommend Vitality and Mind enough. I always have the best time in my sessions. A good mixture of people and fitness levels but with the bonus of being individually tailored. Had a great experience when joining with Ryan’s gym. He’s taken time to assess and coach me to improve my posture and fitness. 6 weeks ago i went to ryan with a really bad foot that i could barely walk on 6 weeks later im virtually pain free and training upto 3 times a week with some boxing thrown in,would recomend ryan he knows his stuff and will not push you top feller he is. The 1 to 1 boxing i enjoy and again he will push you without physical stress to your body. And helping my posture to ease the problems with my foot..

I first went to see Ryan for assessment, after illness, post covid and a difficult family situation had left me feeling unwell and defeated.After an open discussion and some stretches and simple exercises, Ryan said he could work with me.My focus was on improving flexibility and strength.I had been attending Yoga classes, but experiencing a lot of hip pain after each class.Ryan helped me to correct that and fully explained about my inherent strengths from previous sporting activities, and also my weaknesses.His sessions have helped me to resolve the problems I was having, and made me feel overall much stronger, with better flexibility, movement and confidence. I’ve been attending 1-1 training sessions with Ryan for 6 weeks now with very positive results.When I went for my initial assessment with Ryan, I explained that I’d had numerous knee and shoulder operations with little to no physio afterwards and was suffering as a result.Over the past 6 weeks Ryan has tailored my training to alleviate the issues I’ve had post-surgery which has been a great success.My balance, coordination and strength has shown considerable improvement, which has got me to a condition where I can now also attend group training sessions to further improve my fitness.I’m very pleased with how the training has gone so far and am looking to continuing my training with Ryan to maintain and improve on the progress I’ve made so far.Highly recommended.

I’m been training with Vitality and Mind for over a year now. All of the training is specific to the individual’s needs, following a one to one postural assessment with Ryan. He targets the weaker muscles to help you improve prior to taking part in the group classes. Everybody is super friendly and encouraging, and there are no ego’s on display! There are many days and times to choose from, and booking is easy via the app. They also have a great set of body scales that not only measure weight, but looks at water intake, body fat percentage, and more importantly, visceral fat that surrounds your vital organs! Have not regretted a single moment since joining!

I've been training with Ryan for about 9 months now.I had a poor diet and my activity levels were really low so I decided to contact Ryan to go about changing my lifestyle.Ryan invited me for a postural assessment and identified alignment issues and weaker areas of my body that we needed to work on.We set to work on improving these areas during personalised strength and fitness classes.I'd had lower back issues since 2005 and with the help of Ryan and an Osteo he recommended my back pain has gone.Over time we have progressed the strength training to work on different areas of my body along with the nutritional advice that Ryan has given to make sure I am getting the most out of my sessions.Ryan arranged for a body composition test recently using some inbody scales which gave a detailed report of body fat, muscle mass and recommended calories intake.The great results on the printout backed up that all the training we were doing was paying off with above normal muscle mass and low Visceral fat.The variety in both strength and fitness sessions keeps me interested and wanting to go back which had always been an issue at previous gyms.I'd say at the age of 46 I am probably stronger, fitter and eating healthier than I have ever been thanks to Ryan at Vitalilty and Mind.

I have had strength and conditioning training over the years but stopped when the country went into lockdown and I didn't go back to the gym until 2022. Knowing I needed some encouragement and feeling nervous after a 2 year break I did some net surfing and decided to sign up with Vitality & Mind Personal Training. At my first session Ryan undertook an assessment and gave me exercises to do over the following weeks which helped relieve the niggles I had picked up from years of playing sport and also being an office worker. I was then able to push on with increasing my workload in my sessions which made me feel like I was returning to the fitness levels I had previously seen. The group sessions are effective with each person working at their individual level and everyone encouraging each other. When Ryan is away Tom is there to run the sessions just as effectively. I am looking forward to continuing my journey with Vitality & Mind Personal training with the hope it will enable me to play sport for years to come and also keep healthy into an older age.
